3.8. DONALD R. BOYD WATER UTILITY MANAGER AWARD
1. AWARD TITLE: Donald R. Boyd Water Utility Manager Award.
2. PURPOSE OF THE AWARD: In recognition of demonstrated exceptional managerial abilities with a community water supply.
3. THE AWARD: The award will be a plaque bearing the name Donald R. Boyd Water Utility Manager Award; the Missouri Section, American Water Works Association Logo; the name and title of the recipient and the year of the award.
4. FREQUENCY OF THE AWARD: No more than one award will normally be given each year. If sufficient reason exits, either no award will be given or multiple awards may be given.
5. ELIGIBILITY FOR THE AWARD: Individual Missouri Section members eligible to receive the Donald R. Boyd Water Utility Manager Award should be in a managerial position of a community water supply during the period of the meritorious activities.
6. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Submit the nominee’s full name and address, and complete biographical information on each nominee on the entry form provided by Missouri Section American Water Works Association along with supporting data concerning the service performed.
7. NOMINATION PROCEDURE: A nomination for the Award may be submitted by any Missouri Section member to the Section Secretary who will transmit it to the Section’s Donald R. Boyd Water Utility Manager Award Committee for consideration. For continuing consideration by the Awards Committee, biographical data of nominees shall be updated annually.
8. NOMINATION OR SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Except for the 1985 Award, all nominations must be submitted at least thirty (30) days prior to the Section Fall Board of Trustees meeting immediately preceding the section annual conference.
9. AWARD COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP: The Donald R. Boyd Water Utility Manager Award Committee should be composed of no less than five (5) persons with consideration given to representation from among various groups: private and public ownership; small, medium and large size
systems; geographic location; treatment or distribution type of operation, or combinations; and government regulatory bodies. Each year the Section Chair shall appoint the committee members and designate one to serve as Chair.
10. METHOD OF SELECTING AWARD RECIPIENTS: The Section Secretary will transmit all nominations to the Section Donald R. Boyd Water Utility Manager Award Committee for consideration and evaluation, and if warranted, the committee will select the awardee sixty (60) days prior to the Section’s Annual Conference. Announcement of the successful nominee will be withheld until presentation.
11. SELECTION CRITERIA: When evaluating nominees, the Donald R. Boyd Water Utility Manager Award Committee, at the minimum, shall consider the following:
a. Integrity
b. Reputation
c. Contributions to the managerial process
d. Contributions to AWWA (Section and National)
e. Any other submitted qualifications
12. PRESENTATION OF THE AWARD: The award will be presented at the section’s annual conference by the Missouri Section Chair with participation by the Donald R. Boyd Water Utility Manager Award Committee Chair. The presentation will be formally announced by publication or otherwise at the American Water Works Association Conference and Exposition.
